Where do you find your inspiration in your everyday?
My everyday inspiration comes from my daily walks surrounded by nature. It's the one time of the day that I am strict about and gives me a chance to feel grounded and connected to nature's beauty. This solitude is essential for my creative mind and thoughts.
What are some of your steps or rituals in your creative process?
I always take a solitary moment prior to the shoot. I tend to arrive at the studio before anyone, so I can be in the studio and be alone and collect my thoughts about how I am going to handle the day. This time always brings calmness and inspiration and its a routine I trust completely. I am also great believer in leaving a space open for spontaneity to happen in the day so I try not to lock down my thoughts too much.
Can you tell us about one of your most memorable experiences on set?
There have been so many but one of my fondest and certainly one that established me as a photographer, was when I did the poster shoot for Trainspotting. The film company left the ideas of what to do and how to do it up to me, a rare situation to have so much creative freedom and control. Truthfully the film company didn’t quite know what to do with the film and weren’t expecting it to be a success. Having so much freedom with the unknown actors was an unusual situation to be in. I came up with the idea of how to shoot the actors and how the images should be used to market the film. Thankfully it was a massive hit for everyone involved.
